The 8-minute Ad Challenge
Can you make an ad in 8 minutes?
Probably. But can you make a *good* ad in 8 minutes? Possibly.
I’ll let you decide how I did with the following challenges.
The Challenge:
Buy Black, Sell Yellow
In 8 minutes, could we make an ad to sell a color?
What makes each color different - not just in the way it looks, but in the way it makes us feel? What do we associate with it? What unique weight does it hold in our hearts?
This question of unique-ness germinated in my mind. No color defies the limits of differentiation more than orange - the color so singular that it cannot bear to rhyme with any other word!
Thus, orange’s emotional value of “unique” becomes its USP and the lane through which it can be sold to the consumer.
The Challenge:
The Building Blocks of Advertising
Just an ol’ pile of children’s blocks - or is it?
As the timer started ticking, I remembered my father mentioning he would be going to Lowe’s for their wood-cutting service over the weekend.
Boom! There was my connection. Blocks became cut wood, cut wood became a service, and the service is provided by none other than Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Not bad for a quick brainstorm, huh?
